Asset DB

The "Asset Management Database" (also called Configuration Management Database "CMDB" in ITIL) manages all assets, endpoints, configuration items "CIs", products, services, IT devices and software and maps their specific attributes, lifecycles and relationships to each other.

All asset types can be managed in the ticket system, regardless of whether they are IT hardware, software, products, components or other "items", as the administrator can create new types and associated attributes for Asset DB entries as desired.

Note:

In the context of the system, all contents of the Asset DB are referred to as "Assets". Since the management for each object is identical, other term options such as "Endpoints" or "Configuration Items" can be used synonymously or as a subset of all assets.

Assets can also be virtual services, access rights, applications or physical objects/devices; there is no limit here.

Application example for people and room management:

If you want to manage buildings with floors and rooms in your company in order to assign assets or people to them ("room book"), it is recommended to create building parts, floors and rooms as separate assets/configuration items. This allows you to assign individual attributes to the rooms (e.g. size, seating, equipment, etc.) and create a virtual building plan via their relationships to each other (rooms 1, 2, 3 are successors of floor 1, etc.). If required, you can visualize this via the Asset Explorer. By assigning rooms to people, you can immediately see in which room the person has his or her workstation when a ticket is issued, and you can relate tickets (i.e. also incidents) or tasks to rooms.

In addition, special asset/CI types can be managed as part of the "Service Orientation" function (asset type "Business Service"), which allows a complete service of any type to be managed. The "Service Orientation" function supports professional service catalog management, or the mapping of a service portfolio, in which services are structured and provided to one or more organizational units.

Note:

You do not need to create each asset manually. The administrator can automatically create a CSV import with assets/CIs, including attributes and relationships, in the Asset DB.
